Keweenaw

[Eagle Harbor, Keweenaw County, MI. July 25, 2009]

Below rumbly-tumbly skies
The rockpile junkies jumping
Under peels of thunder
That rattle the mountain’s skull
A tad less than Richter’s scale
Enough that the wolfen
Slink down flat, lowering tails
Homage to Mother Nature
And hope atmospheres will pass
(ditto the dog, their distant cuz).
They pronounce it KEY Vin Aw
Place fictionally here
Yet not quite there (more there?)
Vaguely a state of mind-land
Sociopolitical
Experiment of want-have
Not need-want, but some took cheap
From peninsular juttings
Peninsula upon another
Son-spawned geologically
Or whatever, one tother
Third-world republics both
Appendages full of holes
And flooded tunnels stuffed
With ghosts and ganked dead dreams,
The history ignored.
By Lansings’s political whores.
