Slow rain percolating life’s crevices
Soaking us with life-giving renewal,
Settling deep in personal aquifers,
Seen by some as emergency funding
To be drawn upon as life’s turns dictate,
Like cash kept in shoe boxes inside walls,
Against Depressions, great and the small,
Dike to stave off inevitable downs
Psychologically and mentally
The abrasions and nicks wrought by life
Lived hard with no quarter asked, nor
Given, no matter the circumstances,
Risks or rewards, or in between extremes,
No do-overs allowed, just one life
Per carbon unit, birth circumstances
Irrelevantin life’s longer view.
