[Portage, Mi, August 10, 2009]
Little succor from culinary art,
Presentation irrelevant value
In homeless lines queued at soup kitchens
Demarcating the down as clearly out,
Crushed by expectations beyond chance,
Jacked-up costs of getting into the game,
The prices set by cold-blooded alligators
Fat’ning their own young on cold discontent,
Vacuuming life, taking swollen tax breaks
On accounting principles, not charity,
Markets surging up or down, money made
On motion mostly scale economics
Built on the bending spines of cheap workers
Working factories pumping out toxins
To obscure the brightest of shooting stars, As blinking neon bleaches the night sky,
Globalization moving hope around
Like stick-carrots dangled anglewormishly,
Not how capitalist entrepreneurs
Might describe the phenomenon they love,
Losers in all ways in all this always,
Those who lack safety net portfolios
In this the blueprint for birthing unions.
