Working with the DNR
CO Nick Torsky and I stoppped at the "Atlanta Barn," where elk hunters were checking their kills. I looked around the corner (a bad habit) and saw this box. Now this isn't something you see every day!
CO Nick Torsky, first day of December elk season, 2007, and of course out in the middle of nowhere he is "ambushed" by a reporter for Michigan OUT OF DOORS, who was following around an elk guide. Nick, of course, handled it with aplomb.
CO Dave Miller found this blind on a cliff before the season, with too much bait. On opening day we walked up the hills to the place to talk to the hunter. The most scenic blind I've ever seen. Marquette County, far west side of the Huron Mountains.
CO Matt Eberly found an unmarked trap with a live muskrat in it. First he tried to pick the lock open, to release the animal. When that failed he ended up having to euthanize the creature. Day before deer season, 2005, in Keeweenaw County.

People in the boonies are no less opinionated than people in urban settings. The problem is, how do you get your message out when you live in the way-back? Here's one answer. I've seen at least two places with this sort of material, one in the lower peninsula, and one above the bride, eh. These people, as a rule, really LIKE guns.
